On November 10, in line with the standard revision blueprint laid out by the Standardization Administration of China, the Ministry of Public Security successfully coordinated the completion of the draft standard for comments, Technical Conditions for Motor Vehicle Operational Safety, which is now available for public review and comment.
GB 7258 stands as the cornerstone technical standard for motor vehicle safety management in China, finding extensive application across a spectrum of related sectors, including carmaking, importation, quality inspection, registration, safety inspection and operational safety oversight. Since its inception, this standard has significantly contributed to enhancing the technical safety features of motor vehicles and fortifying the management of motor vehicle operational safety. It has provided robust backing for solidifying the fundamentals of road traffic safety governance and advancing the objectives of accident reduction and control.
Judging from China's recent road traffic management practices and the advancements in motor vehicle safety technology both domestically and internationally, it is evident that the current 2017 edition of GB7258 no longer adequately addresses the demands of the evolving landscape. Consequently, GB 7258 has been subjected to its fifth comprehensive revision.

1.Further enhance the safety technical requirements for the operation of heavy and medium-sized freight vehicles to solve the problems of insufficient safety performance such as braking and driving stability of heavy and medium-sized trucks.
2. Further enhance the safety technical requirements for the operation of large and medium-sized buses to address issues such as insufficient application of active safety devices.
3. Further enhance the safety requirements for the operation of new energy vehicles to ensure their safe and high-quality development.
4. Increase safety technology requirements for assisted driving vehicles to guide and standardize the development of assisted driving vehicles.
5. Improve management requirements such as vehicle identification code engraving to further support vehicle safety management.
6. Increase the safety requirements for special motor vehicles and wheeled specialized machinery vehicles to promote the strengthening of their operational safety management.
The revision of this standard adheres to the guiding principles of safety, leadership, scientific rigor and coordination. It places emphasis on addressing the subpar safety performance of large and medium-sized passenger and freight vehicles, vans, and light trucks characterized by "Large tonnage, small indication" by further refining the safety technical specifications for these pivotal vehicle categories and fostering enhancements in China's overall motor vehicle safety performance standards.
Simultaneously, the revision takes full account of the current landscape and emerging trends within China's automotive industry and safety technology advancements. It introduces heightened safety technical requirements for new energy vehicles and assisted driving vehicles, thereby encouraging the innovation and deployment of cutting-edge technologies and products. This, in turn, serves as a catalyst for steering China's automotive industry towards high-quality and safe development trajectories.
